Folding paper mountains

as an alternative form of therapy

In 2017, Joe experienced a nervous breakdown and found his way through it by developing a unique art practice that connects mind, nature, heritage and the senses. Today, he shares this approach through gentle, invitational workshops.

Each session offers a calm, safe space where participants create a paper hill, mountain or landscape using only a sheet of paper, a scalpel and a ruler. Joe guides each stage of the process, sharing how this practice supported his own recovery and offering optional points for reflection.

There is no expectation to talk—participation is simply the act of making. Any conversation that arises is welcome but never required. By the end of the session, each person leaves with a landscape that reflects their own journey and an opportunity to quietly consider what their “mountain” represents.

Joe can also transform completed paper mountains into bespoke art prints (optional commission), allowing participants to honour and celebrate the peaks, valleys, light and shade of their experience.
